Ulam raja digunakan dalam perubatan tradisional kerana khasiatnya yang dikatakan dapat mencuci darah dari bahan toksik dan juga menguatkan tulang. Klorofom yang diekstrak dari daun ulam raja mengandungi pelbagai jenis bahan kimia semulajadi yang dikatakan dapat merencatkan aktiviti sesetengan bakteria dan fungus seperticandida albicans dan Bacillus subtilis serta E.Coli.
